Since its inception in 2001, the Trust has supported a number of projects around the world.

South Asia Vulture Recovery Programme

Researcher:  Nick Lindsay

 

Summary:  Continuation of the programme to prevent extinction of three species of Gyps vulture, now critically endangered as a result of poisoning by the verterinary drug diclofenac in India, Pakistan and Nepal
To bring vultures into captivity for breeding - to remove diclofenac from the system and find an alternative drug.  Also, to support the breeding centre for vultures in Pinjore

Ongooing support for crucial activities in the breeding centres help to reduce the operating costs and maximise the efficiency of the centres

Summary:  Housing and caring for five Cape Verde kites (from the Cape Verde Islands).  Providing DNA samples from these and other related kites to substantiate the species status of the five birds and the likelihood of the continuing existence of Cape Verde Kites

Postgraduate GIS Project to Model Land Use by Wintering Hen Harriers and their Bird Prey

 

Researcher:  Andrew Dobson (Hawk and Owl Trust)

 

Summary:  The Grant given here supported a project utilising radio telemetry for radio tracking Hen Harriers in England.

Investigating Mercury as a Threat to Raptors in Madre de Dios, Peru

 

Researchers:  Margaret Lynne Shrum, Clemson University Program

 

Summary:  Investigation from heavy gold mining activity in Madre de Dios, Peru by collecting blood and feather samples.  The funds will support this collection and monitoring. Permission has been obtained to trap and collect samples

Non-Invasive Monitoring of Golden Eagles in Scotland

Summary:  Using moulted feathers, employ genetic sampling techniques to monitor the presence of individuals over time.

Summary:  To evaluate the diversity of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes in IEs and to test whether or not imperial eagles choose mates on the basis of these genes
