Since its inception in 2001, the Trust has supported a number of projects around the world.  Below is a brief overview. Each project named below represents a link to the research details.

 

 

   South Asia Vulture Recovery Programme (started 2004)
    Researcher:   Nick Lindsay
    Summary:  Continuation of the programme to prevent extinction of three species of Gyps vulture
To bring vultures into captivity for breeding - to remove diclofenac from the system and find an alternative drug.  Also, to support the breeding centre for vultures in Pinjore

   Cape Verde Kite
    Summary:  Housing and caring for five Cape Verde kites (from the Cape Verde Islands).  Providing DNA samples from these and other related Kites to substantiate the species status of the five birds and the likelihood of the continuing existence of Cape Verde Kites

   The Harpy Eagle in Ecuador
    Researcher: Ruth Muniz-Lopez
    Summary:  Monitoring a newly found population of Harpy Eagles in Ecuador and supporting an education programme

    Injured Wild Raptors
    Summary:  From the outset, the Trust has assisted the National Birds of Prey Centre (where the Trust's founder was the Director) with the cost of caring for injured wild raptors.

   Effect of grazing on the density and breeding success of lesser and Eurasian kestrels
    Researcher:  Pablo Vergara Fernandez
    Summary:  Monitor the food requirements of Lesser Kestrels and Eurasian Kestrels in their ranges within Europe

   Assessing the health status of raptors
    Researcher: Jesus Martinez Padilla and Francois Mougeot
    Summary:  Measure stress protein levels and other blood parameters as an indicator of raptor healthiness

   Postgraduate GIS project to model land use by wintering hen harriers and their bird prey
    Researcher:  Andrew Dobson (Hawk and Owl Trust)
    Summary:  The Grant given here supported a project utilising radio telemetry for radio tracking Hen Harriers in England.

   Ecology, breeding, biology and habitat requirements of the Icthyophaga Asian fishing eagles
    Researcher:  Ruth Tingay and Dr Michele Clarke (University of Nottingham)
    Summary:  To support the logistical field costs for two local students in Cambodia
    Duration:  New project: 2005 - June 2006

   Investigating mercury as a threat to raptors in Madre de Dios, Peru
    Researcher:  Margaret Lynne Shrum, Clemson University Program
    Summary:  Investigation from heavy gold mining activity in Madre de Dios, Peru by collecting blood and feather samples.  The funds will support this collection and monitoring. Permission has been obtained to trap and collect samples

   Non-invasive monitoring of Golden Eagles in Scotland
  Researcher:

Dr Mike McGrady,  Dr Ruth Tingay,  Dr Phil Whitfield

   Summary:  Using moulted feathers, employ genetic sampling techniques to monitor the presence of individuals over time.
    Duration:  3 years from 2006

  Molecular ecology and conservation of imperial and white-tailed eagles in Kazakhstan
  Researcher:

J. Andrew DeWoody and Todd E. Katzner

   Summary:  To evaluate the diversity of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes in IEs and to test whether or not imperial eagles choose mates on the basis of these genes.
    Duration:  approx 2 years from 2006
